Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Your driver picks you up at your riad or hotel at 8:00 AM. First, we climb into the High Atlas Mountains. Then, we stop at the Tizi n’Tichka pass, at 2,260 metres, to enjoy the views.
Next, we visit Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village listed by UNESCO. Its earthen houses appear in films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. After the visit, we stop for lunch nearby. Short on time? Our Ait Ben Haddou day trip covers this part of the route.
In the afternoon, we pass Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa. Afterwards, we follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Skoura and Kelaat M’Gouna, in the Rose Valley. Finally, we reach Boumalne Dades in the early evening.
Overnight
Hotel in the Dades Valley, with dinner and breakfast. Driving time: about 6–7 hours with stops.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, we leave the Dades Valley and drive east to Tinghir. Then, we walk into the Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise about 300 metres. In places, the gorge is only about 10 metres wide.
Next, we cross Berber villages and palm groves towards Tinejdad and Erfoud. Here, you can stop for lunch and visit a fossil workshop. Afterwards, we continue to Merzouga, in the Errachidia–Midelt–Merzouga region.
In the late afternoon, your camel trek in Merzouga begins. The ride takes about one hour, so you reach the camp at sunset. Meanwhile, your main luggage travels to the camp by 4×4.
Overnight

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Draa Valley – Marrakech
Your camel guide wakes you before dawn to watch the sunrise from the dunes. Then, you ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. Next, we drive west through Rissani and Alnif.
After that, we follow the Draa Valley, named after Morocco’s longest river. Along the way, we stop for lunch and photos among the palm groves. Finally, we cross the High Atlas again and reach Marrakech in the evening.
