Your driver will pick you up from your riad at 8:00 am to begin your 2 days Sahara Desert tour from Fes. We will depart Fes and travel over the Middle Atlas mountains, passing through the cedar forests of Ifrane (known as the Switzerland of Morocco), Azrou, and Midelt. Continuing through the Ziz Valley and its gorges, we head towards the Sahara. You’ll be amazed by the diversity of the landscapes, from the enchanting desert to the picturesque green valleys and forests.
We will reach Merzouga, a small, charming village considered one of the gateways to the Sahara, before sunset. After enjoying a refreshing mint tea, your guide and camels will be ready to take you across the sandy dunes of the Erg Chebbi to a Berber camp. Erg Chebbi, which stretches 20 km long and 5 km wide, boasts the highest sand dunes in North Africa and offers a unique and diverse environment.
The camel trek to the camp takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival, we will set up in well-equipped Berber tents for a magical night in the desert. As the sun sets behind the dunes, you’ll enjoy a traditional nomadic Berber dinner. After dinner, we’ll gather around the fire and enjoy the sounds of traditional Berber drums under the stars, creating an unforgettable night during your 2 days tour from Fes to Merzouga Desert.
We will wake up early to enjoy a magnificent sunrise over the dunes. After freshening up and having breakfast, we will begin our journey back to Fes through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas mountains. Along the way, we will pass through the cedar forests of Azrou, where we will stop to hand-feed Morocco population of Barbary Apes. We recommend bringing a small overnight backpack with comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Because the Sahara temperature drops significantly at night, make sure to pack a warm jacket or fleece, especially if you are traveling with Culture Morocco Tours between November and March.
