Itinerary:

After enjoying a hearty breakfast at 08:00, our 1-day trip from Fes to Azrou begins. Situated at a strategic crossroads in the northern end of the Middle Atlas, Azrou boasts a picturesque landscape adorned with lush mountains cloaked in evergreen holm oak and cedar forests. At an altitude of 1250 meters, this charming market town is a haven for nature enthusiasts and hikers alike.

Our adventure takes us along the scenic N13 and N8 roads, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Azrou is renowned for its Cèdre Gouraud Forest, home to a unique sub-population of Barbary macaques, known locally as “magots.” This forest is also famed for its rich biodiversity, including rare butterflies found nowhere else in the world.

The allure of Azrou extends beyond its natural wonders, with its European-style urban architecture featuring charming red tile roofs. The region is celebrated for its cherry and apple orchards, as well as fish farms dotting the landscape. Nearby, the abandoned sanatorium in the metropolitan area of Ben Smim adds a touch of historical intrigue.

As our day draws to a close, we bid farewell to Azrou and go on our return journey to Fes, filled with memories of our unforgettable exploration of this captivating destination.
