Overview:
In this 5 days tour from Fes to Marrakech, we will go on a journey to explore the rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes of Morocco. Starting from Fes, the oldest city in Morocco, our route takes us through the middle Atlas to Ifrane, Azrou, and Midelt, culminating in the desert oasis of Merzouga, where the desert experience awaits.
Your camel companions will lead you to a Berber camp, immersing you in the nomadic Berber lifestyle for a night under the starry desert sky. Continuing our adventure, we’ll visit Erfoud, Tinghir, Todra Gorges, and Dades Gorges, traversing through the captivating Dades valley and the palm groves of Skoura.
Our journey further unfolds as we explore Ouarzazate, known as “the Hollywood of Africa”, and visit the iconic Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Driving through the High Atlas Mountains, we’ll reach the vibrant city of Marrakech, where our tour concludes.
Throughout our expedition, we’ll traverse the middle Atlas via Ifrane, often referred to as the “Moroccan Switzerland”, and Azrou, with a stop at the cedar forest to visit the majestic Cedre Gouraud Tree and observe the playful Barbary apes. Itinerary:
Day 1: Fes – Ilfrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
After breakfast in your Riad or Hotel at 08:00 AM, you will embark on a 5 days tour from Fes to Marrakech, traversing the middle Atlas via Ifrane, often referred to as the “Moroccan Switzerland“, and Azrou. Pause at the cedar forest to visit the iconic Cedre Gouraud Tree, home to the playful Barbary apes. Continuing southward, encounter nomadic communities living in tents amidst picturesque landscapes, adorned with volcanic rocks.
Our next stop will be in Midelt, where you’ll savor a delightful lunch. Continuing our drive, we’ll cross the Tizi N’Talghomt Pass (1907 m), offering panoramic views of the surrounding vistas. Traverse through Ziz Gorge and the tunnel, and near Errachidia, marvel at the turquoise blue waters of Barrage Hassan Al-Dakhil.
As we journey to Erfoud, pause to admire the panoramic view of Aoufous palm trees along the Ziz River. Our expedition continues to Merzouga via Erfoud, traversing through the oasis of Tafilalet, the largest date palm grove in Morocco. Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon and check into your hotel, where you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, preparing for the desert adventures that await.
Day 2: Tour around Merzouga Desert
After breakfast in the hotel, we will go on a captivating 5 days Fes to Marrakech Desert tour, beginning with an explorative journey of the area. Encounter nomadic communities in their goat-hair tents and gain insight into desert life. Next, immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Gnaoua people, originally brought from Sudan, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience their music and learn about their rich cultural heritage.
Depending on the season, you may have the chance to visit the picturesque lake of Merzouga, home to a diverse bird population including the elegant Flamingos. In the afternoon, the camels will join us for a trek to a Berber camp nestled amidst the majestic sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, known for being the highest in North Africa. After a scenic journey of approximately 1hr 30 min, we’ll arrive at the camp, where Berbers’ tents await, equipped with all necessary facilities for a comfortable stay. As the sun sets behind the dunes, indulge in a nomadic Berber dinner, followed by an evening of traditional Berber drumming under the starlit sky, creating unforgettable memories.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
Wake up early in the morning to witness the breathtaking sunrise atop the dunes of the Sahara desert, followed by a hearty breakfast. After soaking in these serene moments, return to the hotel on camelback for a refreshing shower. Our journey continues towards Tinghir, passing through Erfoud and Tinejdad, with a lunch break along the way. In the afternoon, we’ll proceed to Todra Gorges via Tinghir, pausing frequently for photo opportunities and to admire the surrounding landscape. Upon reaching Todra Gorges, marvel at its magnificent canyon views while hiking. Finally, we’ll conclude our day in the Dades Valley, where dinner awaits at the hotel, providing a comfortable night’s rest.
Day 4: Dades Gorges – Roses Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate
This morning, after indulging in breakfast at the hotel, we’ll embark on the 5 days Fes to Marrakech Desert tour, departing for Ouarzazate via Skoura. Along the way, we’ll pause for a panoramic view of the Dades Valley, followed by another photo stop near the Dades Gorges. Continuing through the Dades Valley, we’ll encounter the Kasbah of Ait Youl, traversing the track road that winds through the picturesque Rose Valley with its charming Kasbahs and Ksours.
Lunch will be enjoyed en route, and in the afternoon, our journey will lead us to the palm groves of Skoura, where we’ll explore the renowned Kasbah of Amredil. Throughout the day, expect to be captivated by the diverse landscapes, ranging from the vast expanse of the desert to the majestic mountains, verdant valleys, and lush palm trees. Finally, we’ll reach Ouarzazate, where dinner and overnight accommodation await at the hotel.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
In the morning, as part of the 5 days tour from Fes to Marrakech, we will bid farewell to Ouarzazate, known as “the Hollywood of Africa,” after a visit to its renowned studios. Our journey continues as we traverse the High Atlas Mountains via the highest road pass in Morocco, Tizin Tichka, standing at 2260m high. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the valleys, mountains, and numerous Berber villages nestled nearby. By evening, we’ll reach Marrakech, where the tour concludes with drop-off at your Marrakech riad/hotel around 17:30/18:00 pm.
